Frequently Asked Questions

Fall Product

Fall Product is an annual fund raiser for Girl Scout Troops.  This campaign is not as public facing as Cookie season is; it is more of a friends and family event.

The Service Unit Fall Product Chair will coordinate training and materials for the participating troops each year.  Be on the lookout for emails or notices on this website that Fall Product season is underway.

Of note: the products are not received at the point-of-sale; items are ordered and received later.  The benefit to this type of sales campaign is that the troop is only selling what was actually ordered by their customers.

To participate in Fall Product sales, refer to this page: Fall Product

Fall Product is in the Fall!.  However, training starts in August each year for the Fall Product Troop Chairs.  Customers are alerted that the sales season has begun in mid-September, with initial orders being taken through October.  The order is placed with Council, and then the actual product is delivered around mid-November.

This is a fantastic fund raiser for your troop!  The proceeds from Fall Product are typically 25% from the nuts/candy sales and 20% from the non-food items.  It is a very easy campaign for your troop or Juliette to participate in, and to earn funds for your troop.

Girls will learn the "Five Skills": Goal Setting, Decision Making, Money Management, People Skills and Business Ethics.   More information can be found on the www.GirlScoutsLA.org website.

If your troop is Cadette or younger, participation is at least 50% of your troop selling at least 10 units.  Nuts/candies are 1 unit each, magazines are 2 units each.

If your troop is Senior or Ambassador, participation is for each girl to sell at least 10 units.

Reminder:  Participation is only required IF your troop will be hosting any other fundraisers throughout the year.  Fall Product and Cookie Sales are the official fundraisers for your troop, but other fundraising events can be held throughout the year (such as the 6th grade overnight).  To earn funds from those types of events, each hosting troop must have participated in the previous two GSGLA fundraising opportunities.

Cookie Sales

This is THE fundraiser that Girl Scouts is most famous for.  Pretty much everyone knows what Girl Scout Cookies are, and they sell themselves!

This is a public facing fundraiser, with girls working individually or with their troops to sell cookies directly to their customers.

This packet of information from GSGLA provides a lot of information. (This file is from 2025; refer to GSGLA's website for the latest information.)

Cookie Season kicks off in early to mid-January, typically running through March.  Training for leaders starts in December.

To get your troop involved, please refer to this page.

The proceeds for the troop are typically ~$1.00/box.  The more cases of cookies you sell, the greater the rewards, such as a day at Disneyland or an adventure weekend.

Girls can learn a lot of entrepreneurial skills with this fundraising campaign.

  • Decision Making
  • Money Management
  • People Skills
  • Business Ethics

If your troop is Cadette or younger, participation is at least 50% of your troop selling at least 24 boxes of cookies.

If your troop is Senior or Ambassador, participation is for each girl to sell at least 24 boxes.

Hosting Events

  • Troops, including adults, participating in events must be in compliance with GSUSA and GSGLA registration, financial and training requirements
  • Girls should be actively involved in decision-making, as appropriate.
  • Events can be money -earning, serving as a fund raiser for the troop(s) planning the event
  • More information about hosting an event can be found here.

Service Unit

The Service Unit (SU) coordinates the troops and activities for the local area (in this case, La Canada Flintridge) in conjunction with Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles (aka "Council"), who in turn is working with Girl Scouts of USA.

Service Unit Managers keep troop leaders informed of current happenings.  The primary methods are via monthly meetings and emailed newsletters.  The website is for information that is useful year-round for the troop leaders and troop families in the community.

The Service Unit is comprised of many team members:

  • Service Unit Managers (SUM) - La Canada tries to maintain 3 SUMs at all times, with each SUM serving 3 years
  • Service Unit Treasurer
  • Service Unit Registrar
  • Service Unit Event Coordinator
  • Service Unit Cookie Chair
  • Service Unit Fall Product Chair
  • Service Unit Communications Chair
  • Service Unit Gold Silver Bronze Ceremony Chair
  • and more, depending on interest!

The Service Unit collects fees from troops via events hosted by the troops in La Canada.  It is a nominal fee per attending girl (more information available on the Hosting Events page).

Monies collected are utilized for:

  • Website hosting via GoDaddy
  • Email system via ConstantContact
  • GoogleMeet and file hosting via Google
  • Monthly meeting supplies; e.g. agenda copies, nominal raffle gifts and refreshments
  • Leader Dinner and Award Ceremony hosted each Spring
